The history of Dhulikhel started centuries ago where it was set as an ancient route linking the merchants linking Tibet and Nepal. Merchants have been using this route to exchange gold and salt. Also, Tibetans during the season of Dashain brought flocks of goats and sheep through Dhulikhel for trade exchanging it with chillies and other daily requirements. Dhulikhel was a resting spot for the merchants who made their way to Kathmandu. Food and water with overnight stay was made available for travellers set to reach Bhaktapur in the fowllowing day. Even today gorgeous views of the Himalayas along with the trails to Tibetan Borders can be seen from the resorts at Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel and Tibet was connected by motorway in 1965 after which Dhulikhel started being popular as a tourist destination. Till now Dhulikhel is an ideal place to stay overnight for the ones who are going to Kathmandu.

The old town of Dhulikhel in the southern face consists of good old Newari cultural houses, home to more than 20 members of extended family. All the houses share common traits such as glazed windows, modern furniture, hot water and a complete friendly atmosphere. Their traditionally carved doors and windows show rich Newari craftmanship.

Dhulikhel also is home to many gods living in beautiful temples carved by Newari craftsmen of traditional era. These temples are very close to the locals who worship the gods as daily routine. There are few Buddhist Stupas that look like pearl beads in the garland of temples in Dhulikhel. One is sure to lose all his stress just with a view that can be witnessed from Dhulikhel. Rest will speak for itself.
